Learn about the properties of the tangent function. For example, tan(x) is periodic with period π (half the period of sin(x) and cos(x), interestingly). But unlike sin(x) and cos(x), the tangent isn't bounded (it can get arbitrarily large), and it isn't defined everywhere either.
